Father's Day

Although our little family didn't do anything particularly special for Father's Day, we were just so glad to be spending it together that we didn't care what we did.

Michael and I usually like to sleep in on Sundays, or as long as Caleb will allow, but this morning we had to get up early so we could make it out to the base and say goodbye to the remaining members of his company that got deployed to Afghanistan, where Michael was supposed to be going almost two months ago. Seeing the men off, and watching the other families say goodbye, I held on tight to my husband and the father of our precious child, and was secretly glad for the um-teenth time that he broke that bone in his foot. If it weren't for that, we'd be spending this day apart, along with a few hundred others, wishing he could be here. Luckily he is here, and Caleb can get to know his daddy, and Michael can spend time with his son. Watching them together makes me happier than I've ever been. There are moments when the three of us are just sitting around the house, talking or playing with Caleb, and I take a mental snapshot and hope I'll always remember these times. I love our little family.

Consequently, we spent the day at the beach, since we were only a few miles from it on base, and it was really nice out but early enough it wouldn't be too hot. Michael made fun of me because I was fascinated with the sand crabs that stuck out of their burrows to catch a wave, by the hundreds! Caleb got strolled around on the perfectly even sand, and even toed the waves for a bit (of course I didn't get pictures of that!). Needless to say, he thought he owned the place after that...

I'm sure we'll be back to visit very soon.

hair-do

Although our boy was born with quite a bit of dark brown hair, it's progressively getting shorter, thinner, and blonder. There's even a subtle tint of red in there, but it's much more obvious in the sunlight. It's still pretty thick on top, and long enough that we couldn't resist the urge to play around with it a bit.
